Spin Recovery

If a spin is inadvertently entered, proceed as follows:

  1. THROTTLE—IDLE—Retard throttle to IDLE to prevent compressor stalls.
  2. Flight Stick—RELEASE—Release all controls and determine spin direction.

  3. External Load—JETTISON

    Warning

    If only pylons are installed, jettison the pylons.

  4. Landing Gear—UP—Wing Flaps—UP—Speed Brake—UP—Retracting these surfaces prevents structural damage from excess airspeed during recover.

  5. Rudder—FULL OPPOSITE—Ailerons—FULL WITH SPIN—Flight Stick—FULL AFT
  6. When rotation stops—STALL RECOVERY—When rotation stops, recover the aircraft from its stall attitude.

Warning

Do not hold recovery controls after rotation stops; otherwise, the aircraft will spin in the opposite direction.

Warning

While recovering, holding ailerons against the spin can rsult in a flat spin. In a flat spind, hold normal recovery controls until rotation stops.

Warning

If entering spin at less than 10,000 feet AGL, or spin recovery is not accomplished at 10,000 AGL, there will not be enough terrain clearance. Eject.
